Although their transfer business will now be monitored by the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – over a lack of guarantees, Lyon are pushing ahead with their squad overhaul, in the first full summer of John Textor’s ownership.
Having already confirmed the arrival of midfielder Skelly Alvero from Sochaux, Les Gones have now unveiled their second signing of the window in Angolan full-back Clinton Mata from Club Brugge.
The 30-year-old has spent all of his career in Belgium – his country of birth – so far, having previously appeared for Eupen, Genk and Charleroi as well. He joins the Ligue 1 side in a deal worth €5m, and has signed a three-year contract with the French side. Lyon also indicate that the Flemish side will earn 10% of any profit made from his future sale.
Mata was reportedly initially identified as a target by former head of recruitment Bruno Cheyrou, with successor Matthieu Louis-Jean green-lighting the move as well.
