Olympique de Marseille have announced the completion of signing Brazilian winger Igor Paixão (24) from Feyenoord. The Brazil U23 international joins the Ligue 1 side on a five-year deal, with the transfer believed to be one of the most expensive in OM’s history with an initial fixed fee of around €30 million, plus up to €5 million in performance-related bonuses, for a total package potentially reaching €35 million.

Paixão arrives at the Vélodrome fresh off an impressive campaign in the Netherlands for Feyenoord. The former Coritiba man registered 18 goals and 19 assists in all competitions for Feyenoord last season, playing a crucial role in their KNVB Cup triumph and run to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

The move marks a return to Europe’s top table for Paixão, who featured 17 times in the 2024-25 Champions League, scoring twice and assisting five more in what proved to be a breakthrough European campaign.

Marseille had to fend off stiff competition from Premier League returnees Leeds United, with Pablo Longoria personally leading the negotiations to land the highly sought-after forward. Feyenoord reluctantly sanctioned the deal after the player made clear his desire to join OM. A proposal of €35m was then reportedly accepted late last week by the Dutch club.

Paixão becomes thefifth summer signing under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, following the arrivals of Facundo Medina (Lens), Angel Gomes (Lille), CJ Egan-Riley (Burnley), and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Brazilian is expected to slot straight into De Zerbi’s high-tempo, possession-based system on the left flank.

Born in Curia, Brazil, and developed at Coritiba, Paixão made the leap to European football in 2022 and quickly adapted to life in the Eredivisie.GFFN | George Boxall
