An official Newcastle United injury update has followed Monday night’s defeat at St James’ Park.
United so cruelly denied at least a point.
Playing for over an hour with ten men, Newcastle United pulling it back from 2-0 down to 2-2.
However, those 11 minutes added at the end of the second half finally proved a step too far, as Liverpool scored the winner in the tenth minute of added time.
For Eddie Howe and Newcastle United though, further misery was heaped on United with a number of players forced off.
Anthony Gordon red carded late in the first half for a daft challenge on Virgil van Dijk, that will see him miss the next three Premier League matches against Leeds, Wolves and Bournemouth.
On top of that though, injury forcing a number of other players off as well.
Eddie Howe delivering this official Newcastle United injury update after the win against Chelsea:
Eddie Howe on Sandro Tonali who was forced off on 66 minutes when trying to carry on after having been dragged to the ground and appearing to injure his shoulder/arm:
“Sandro doesn’t look good.
“He couldn’t move his arm.
“He wanted to stay on.
Eddie Howe on Sandro Tonali who was forced off on 76 minutes when a freak injury left him in obvious pain and he limped off:
“Joey doesn’t look great to be honest.”
Eddie Howe on Fabian Schar who was forced off on 81 minutes when left on the deck holding his head in the opposition penalty area, yet the useless referee refused to stop play for the obvious head injury:
“Fabian had concussion so we will lose him.”
Concussion protocols mean Schar will miss Leeds on Saturday but should hopefully be ok for Wolves at home two weeks on Saturday.
With Joelinton it doesn’t look good at all.
Whilst with Sandro Tonali, we just have to hope it is one of those where the next morning he wakes up and whilst still sore, no serious damage.
