Minutes after it emerged that Dean Huijsen was absent from training today, Real Madrid have officially confirmed that the defender is sidelined with a calf injury.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Dean Huijsen by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right calf. His recovery will be monitored,” the club statement read.
Huijsen has been a regular in the starting lineup for Real Madrid this season when fit and available.
However, the 20-year-old centre-back’s performances had been causing some concern in recent weeks. With Antonio Rudiger returning and Raul Asencio available, his starting spot in the lineup was under threat.
Now, the defender will end up missing tomorrow’s La Liga clash against Osasuna due to the calf injury.
Journalist Melchor Ruiz of COPE confirms that the problem is only a minor one and he is expected to be out for a period of only 5 to 7 days.
So, while Huijsen will miss the game against Osasuna, his availability to face SL Benfica in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs next week will be touch and go.
So far this term, the summer signing has made 27 appearances across all competitions, registering a goal and two assists.
