Muted whistles gave way to loud applause for Huijsen at the Bernabéu after his foul led to Real Sociedad’s 1-1 equaliser.
According to AS, the home crowd had largely drawn a line under recent jeers aimed at some players, and a brief attempt to revive them midway through the first half quickly faded.
In minute 20 the Real Madrid centre-back fouled Yangel Herrera, and Oyarzabal converted the penalty. On the restart a very small section whistled the defender, with most in the ground refusing to join in.
At his next involvement the whistles mixed with applause. By his fourth touch, the claps were dominant and enthusiastic, drowning out any dissent.
Most judged it a night to support their side rather than settle scores, and within less than 10 minutes Madrid were back in front thanks to goals from Vinicius and Valverde.
