La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Thursday announced the club’s new first-team head coach.
The tactician set to take up the reins at the Santiago Bernabéu for the seasons to come? José Mourinho.
The name of iconic manager Mourinho has of course dominated the headlines in the city of Madrid for several weeks now. This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that Florentino Pérez had identified the 63-year-old as his first-choice target to replace Álvaro Arbeloa on Los Blancos’ bench.
Mourinho of course previously spent time managing in Spain’s capital between 2010 and 2013, with his no-nonsense approach evidently considered the correct one to keep Real Madrid’s ego-filled dressing room in check.
On Thursday evening, it has therefore come as little surprise to see the former Chelsea and Roma boss’ Bernabéu return confirmed.
As per a statement across Real’s social media platforms:
‘The Board of Directors of Real Madrid C.F., meeting today, Thursday, June 11, and presided over by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to appoint José Mourinho as the first team’s head coach for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029.
‘José Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day preseason begins.’
