Real Madrid have issued an official statement confirming that summer signing Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined with a thigh injury.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Trent Alexander-Arnold by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps. His recovery will be monitored,” the statement read.

Trent suffered the injury while in action for Real Madrid against Athletic Club on Wednesday night.

Having started the match, the right-back assisted Kylian Mbappe’s first goal and was involved in the buildup leading to Eduardo Camavinga’s strike as well.

Ten minutes into the second half, though, Trent went down to the ground clutching his thigh and had to be taken off, with there being great concerns about his injury.

Now those fears have come true as the England international’s injury is quite serious and he will be out of action for two months, according to journalist Arancha Rodriguez.

This comes as a huge blow for Trent, who was finally growing into his role in the team after a slow start at Real Madrid since arriving in the summer.

He is now expected to miss all of Real Madrid’s remaining UEFA Champions League group games as well as the Spanish Super Cup matches, along with several La Liga clashes, starting with this weekend vs Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, with Dani Carvajal also unavailable until the new year, Real Madrid are left without a natural right-back in the squad and may have to rely on either Federico Valverde or Raul Asencio in the coming weeks.
