Official: Real Madrid talent Mastantuono joins Fiorentina | OneFootball

Fiorentina have officially announced their signing of teenage Real Madrid talent Franco Mastantuono on a season-long loan deal.

The 18-year-old Mastantuono joins Fiorentina on a straight loan deal, which does not include an option or obligation to buy, nor will there be an automatic extension to the loan deal if the Viola qualify for Europe this season, contrary to reports earlier this week.

Mastantuono is the youngest player ever to have represented Argentina at senior level, earning his debut under Lionel Scaloni at the age of 17 years and 296 days old last summer. He broke a record that had lasted well over 100 years, dating back to Adolfo Heisinger in 1916.

The Albiceleste teenager made his debut with River Plate at the age of 16 and went on to score 10 goals from 64 competitive appearances in his native Argentina before joining Real Madrid in a €45m transfer last summer.

Since then, he has gone on to make 35 appearances across all competitions with Madrid, including eight outings in the Champions League.

“ACF Fiorentina announces that it has purchased, on a temporary basis, the sporting rights to the footballer Franco Mastantuono from Real Madrid,” read a statement on the club website.

“Mastantuono, born in Azul on August 14, 2007, grew up in the youth sector at River Plate and made his debut in the first team at the age of 16. After that, he collected 64 appearances and 10 goals in the River shirt.

“During the last season, the new Viola player made 35 appearances with Real Madrid between LaLiga, the Champions League, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup, scoring three goals.

“Mastantuuono is the youngest player to have made their debut for the Argentina senior national team and has worn the Albiceleste jersey on four occasions.”
