On the back of UEFA issuing a statement confirming that they have opened an investigation into FC Barcelona with regard to the Negreira case, Real Madrid have come out with a statement of their own, urging the organisation to conduct the investigation in a swift manner.

UEFA confirmed earlier today that they had received a detailed dossier from Los Blancos, which included statements and potential evidence against Barça in the Negreira case, pertaining to the payments made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.

The Merengues have been fighting against the issue for a long time now, with club president Florentino Perez even calling it the biggest scandal in football.

Now, they have come out and asked for a quick investigation and impose sanctions that match the severity of the proven facts in the case.

Real Madrid full statement

“In response to the communication made today by UEFA regarding the so-called ‘Negreira case’, Real Madrid CF states the following:

“UEFA has confirmed receipt of the complaint filed by Real Madrid CF and the continuation of the investigation into payments made over the last two decades by FC Barcelona to the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees.

“The complaint filed by our club includes abundant documentation and evidence about extremely serious events that directly affect the integrity of the competition and confidence in the refereeing system.

“Real Madrid CF considers it essential that, once UEFA has this documentation, the investigation proceeds as quickly as possible until its complete conclusion and that the competent bodies adopt the corresponding decisions according to the seriousness of the proven facts.

“Our club will continue to actively collaborate with UEFA and take all actions within its power to clarify events that it considers incompatible with the principles of integrity, transparency and fair play that should govern European football.”
