Stade Rennais have released a statement that confirms previous reports relating to Habib Beye’s sacking as head coach. The 48-year-old former Newcastle United full-back has been told he would be relieved of his duties this Monday. Beye’s Rennes have lost four games on the bounce in the last month amid simmering tensions between the Senegal international and some of his senior players.

Rennes have confirmed that Beye and his assistants were no longer in charge of the first team with talks underway regarding the terms of his exit. Beye’s contract was to expire this June, but he would have kept his job should Rennes were to qualify for European football next season. “Stade Rennais F.C. have initiated a procedure against its head coach, M. Habib Beye, and his assistants, M. Olivier Saragaglia, M. Sébastien Bichard and M. Yann Cavezza.
