Following two days of talks in the United States between manager Roberto De Zerbi, president Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia, and president Pablo Longoria, Marseille confirm the Italian will be at the club next season in an official communiqué. Hosted by McCourt and Jeff Ingram, president of OM’s supervisory board, the meetings were convened in the wake of Marseille’s second-place finish in Ligue 1 – a season marked by the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League. In an official statement sent to supporters, OM described the transatlantic summit as an opportunity to “consolidate and reaffirm the unity” of the club’s leadership, who remain “fully aligned” in their commitment to the project launched in summer 2024.
“In a high-level environment, characterised by intense competition and constant pressure, it was essential to analyse both the successes and the challenges of the season,” the club said. The former Brighton and Sassuolo manager signed a three-year deal with OM and led the side back into Europe’s top club competition after his first season in French football. Yet links to Serie A jobs, including to AC Milan had raised minor alarm bells among the Marseille faithful. At a press conference attended by Get French Football News, De Zerbi said “It’s been a tough season, we have to be objective about that. I’m grateful to Frank, Pablo and Medhi. I don’t want to leave.”“We need to look at what to do for the future, plan it and see where we stand, and talk honestly. Things need to be said. I haven’t started talks with any club,” said the Italian following OM’s 4-2 win over Rennes in Les Phocéens’ final game of the season.GFFN | George Boxall
