Roma have officially confirmed that Claudio Ranieri will now serve as a ‘manager and senior advisor to the ownership’ after the end of his stint as head coach in the second half of the 2024-25 season and the recent appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini.

Ranieri returned to Roma in November following the departure of Ivan Juric, who had only been appointed to replace Daniele De Rossi in the dugout in September.

Ranieri has been serving as an interim head coach, and guided the Giallorossi to a respectable fifth-place finish, ending the 2024-25 campaign one point outside the top four with the best record of any team in the division in the last 10 games of the season.

However, at 73 years of age, and having previously hinted that he would be stepping away from day-to-day coaching opportunities, Ranieri was never going to continue as head coach into the 2025-26 campaign.

Instead, he will remain on board as a manager and senior advisor to the club’s ownership, assisting the new head coach, Gasperini, whose appointment was officially confirmed on Friday.

Gasperini, who spent nine seasons in Bergamo with Atalanta, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal running until the summer of 2028.

The club confirmed Ranieri’s new role in an end-of-season statement from owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin, which read: “This was a season defined by character. With pride, resilience, and unity, Roma rose to the challenge and reminded the world of what this Club stands for. We fight together!

“On behalf of the Friedkin family, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to you, the fans, whose beating heart is the very soul of Roma. Your loyalty, passion, and love for the Giallorossi colours have made this a year to remember… and an ending to be proud of.

“When Roma needed clarity and leadership, we made a strategic decision to turn to someone who truly embodies the values of this Club. Claudio Ranieri’s appointment was not just a response to the moment — it reflected our belief in stability, identity, and connection.

“We are sincerely grateful to Claudio for answering the call with such integrity and professionalism, and for a second half of the season Roma fans everywhere can be proud of.

“Roma’s momentum continues to grow with the appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini as the new head coach of AS Roma.
