Alexis Saelemaekers will look to impress in the Italian capital, but should return next summer.

Saelemaekers was the standout performer for Milan during pre-season and even got praise from coach Paulo Fonseca who said he would like to see Alexis stay.

However, in the end – on the final day of the summer mercato, the Belgian finds himself out of the club and in search for more consistent playing time. He joins Roma for one season, in a direct exchange with Tammy Abraham who makes the opposite trip on the same conditions.

“Milan can confirm that Alexis Saelemaekers has joined Roma on loan until 30 June 2025. The Club would like to wish Alexis all the best this season,” a statement reads.

The swap with Abraham was initially supposed to be permanent and not an exchange of loans, but Milan and Roma could not find an agreement on the valuations of the players.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bologna, helping them have an historic season for the club. He will now hope to impress Daniele De Rossi and make a name for himself at Roma.
