RC Lens have confirmed that Salis Abdul Samed has joined AFC Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.
Abdul Samed had been in the shop window for Lens this summer with multiple French clubs interested in making a deal for the Ghanaian international who has been placed in the “loft” by the new manager Will Still.
The midfielder played 39 times across all competitions last season, including during the club’s foray into the Champions League and the Europa League.
FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne had all been linked with a move for the out-of-favour midfielder. However, instead, the midfielder decided to swap France for England.
A deal between the French side and Sunderland, now managed by former FC Lorient manager Régis Le Bris, was concluded on transfer deadline day. Abdul Samed joins the Black Cats on a straight loan deal that will not include the option to make the move permanent.
