It’s been a strong start to the Premier League campaign for Sunderland, with their manager receiving a well-deserved accolade. After three matchdays, Régis Le Bris has guided his team to two victories, putting them sixth in the table.

The Frenchman, who helped them get to the top-flight last season for the first time since 2016-17, has been nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month. The former FC Lorient boss will be up against Everton’s David Moyes, Liverpool’s Arne Slot and Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca.

Le Bris has a reputation for achieving strong early results, with the Black Cats boasting a 100% record in the first month of the Championship campaign a season ago, the first for Le Bris at the helm. Over that span, his team scored 10 goals and conceded just one, leading to him being named the Championship Manager of the Month.

Sunderland are off to the best start among the three newly promoted sides, with only goal difference separating them from a place in the UEFA Champions League early on.

Le Bris wasn’t the only Frenchman to be recognised for his strong opening month of the season. Hugo Ekitiké (23) is one of the eight best players nominated for Premier League Player of the Month. In August, the Reims-born striker who joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window scored two goals and added an assist for the reigning Premier League champions.

The Reds are the only side in the competition with a 100% record.
