Official: St. Pauli confirm signing of Aberdeen goalkeeper Mitov | OneFootball

St. Pauli confirmed on Thursday morning that they signed Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer fee for the starting goalkeeper of the Scottish Premiership club is €400k.

After their relegation to the 2. Bundesliga, St. Pauli saw Bosnia & Herzegovina shot-stopper Nikola Vasilj join Saudi Pro League newcomers Al-Diriyah instead of extending his expiring contract.

With the departure of the long-serving number one, Ben Voll played in goal as St. Pauli drew with Greuther Fürth in their first game back in 2. Bundesliga. The Bulgarian international Mitov is now expected to be ahead of the former Köln goalkeeper in the pecking order.

According to Kicker, the former Cambridge United and St. Johnstone FC goalkeeper signed a three-year deal at St. Pauli. The 29-year-old was the starting goalkeeper in his first two seasons at Aberdeen. Despite a hamstring injury keeping him out for months in his debut season, he helped them to a sensational season in 2024/25.

The Dons started the Premiership season with 12 wins and a draw before ending it with their first Scottish Cup trophy since 1990. Mitov saved two penalties in the final against Celtic. He also played 42 games in his final season at Aberdeen.

“Dimitar (Mitov) has very good qualities on the line and can solve even difficult situations due to his dynamism and explosiveness. At the same time, he actively defends the space and conveys a lot of peace and security. We look forward to working with him and integrating him into our processes.” said St. Pauli’s coach Marcel Rapp.
