The FIGC has confirmed that Roma’s Lorenzo Venturino has been forced to withdraw from the Italy national team squad ahead of June’s international friendlies, and that 22-year-old Cesena midfielder Tommaso Berti has been called in to replace him.
Italy will play away against Luxembourg on June 3 and away against Greece on June 7 under the guidance of interim head coach Silvio Baldini, who is in temporary charge following the recent resignations of Gennaro Gattuso, Gianluigi Buffon and Gabriele Gravina.
Baldini typically serves as Italy’s U21s coach, and so he has decided to name a squad made up almost entirely of the players he knows from the youth set-up. Of the 24 players he selected, only Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Palestra, Niccolo Pisilli and Pio Esposito have been capped at senior level.
Among the original selections in Baldini’s squad was 19-year-old Giallorossi talent Venturino, who has, however, dropped out of the squad due to an unspecified agreement between Roma and the national team.

Fortunately, an extra four players who were not named in the latest Italy squad have been training with the team at Coverciano over the last few days. Among them is Cesena’s Berti, who has now been promoted to the 24-man squad.
The FIGC have confirmed that two of the four ‘training players’, Dominic Vavassori and Gabriele Guarino will return to their respective clubs and that the other, Nicolo Fortini, will remain with the Italy side until June 2.
