Official: Viery becomes Fiorentina’s first signing of the season for €15m | OneFootball

Fiorentina have completed the permanent signing of defender Viery Fernandes Santos Lopes from Gremio for a reported 15m including add-ons, the club said in a statement. The move makes Viery their first arrival of the season.

The 21-year-old came through Gremios youth system, earning promotion to the senior squad in 2025. He made 27 competitive appearances last season and scored twice from defence. He is primarily a centre-back but can also operate on the right.

Arriving in Florence is a special moment for him after giving everything in Porto Alegre, and he described wearing the Fiorentina shirt as an honour. Being the first signing of the campaign is, he said, an exciting step.

Before the transfer, Viery had been linked with Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

He studies the way Sergio Ramos plays, has long admired Paolo Maldinis videos, and appreciates the style of Virgil Van Dijk. He sees himself as a defender with strong stamina who uses his physical strength and likes to play out from the back.

Viery could not watch Brazils World Cup Round of 32 win over Japan while flying to Europe, but he is backing Carlo Ancelottis team and is sure they will reach the Final.
