France international William Saliba (24) has signed a long-term contract extension with Arsenal, the Premier League club confirmed on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has put pen to paper over a new five-year contract, which ties him to Mikel Arteta’s Gunners until 2030, according to RMC Sport. The Saint-Etienne Academy graduate joined Arsenal in 2019, but he became a vital part of the Gunners’ backline from 2022 onwards, on the back of several loan spells in Ligue 1. Saliba made 140 appearances in all competitions with Arsenal.
“Since joining us, William has grown so much, embraced responsibility, and has created a strong connection with our supporters and everyone at the club“, said Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman is widely regarded as one of the finest defenders of his generation, and his new long-term contract ensures Arsenal that Saliba will spend his peak years in North London. Real Madrid were reportedly interested in his services.
“In the last three seasons, William has become an incredible defender whose composure, intelligence and physical presence make him one of the best in the world“, adds Arsenal Sporting director Andrea Berta. “He will continue his development with Arsenal to reach new heights.”
