For a club reported to be done with the summer transfer market, VfL Wolfsburg have ended up having an unexpectedly busy transfer deadline day. Germany’s green company team confirmed two new arrivals shortly after the deadline closed on Monday. Sunderland defender Jenson Seelt and RB Salzburg attacker Adam Daghim have both joined the Bundesliga outfit on loan.
Wolfsburg appeared to have given up their search for additional assistance in central defense until young prospect David Odogu pushed for a late transfer. Odogu was thought to be keen on remaining in Lower Saxony despite interest from elsewhere, but a chance to join AC Milan proved too good to pass up. Wolfsburg then shook off their interest in other defensive candidates to pursue Seelt.
Seelt joined Sunderland from PSV Eindhoven in 2023. The 22-year-old missed virtually all of last year’s EFL Championship campaign after undergoing major knee surgery. The €2m-valued centre-back has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Black Cats thus far this year. There’s no word yet as to whether Wolfsburg have secured their sought-after purchase option.
The same applies to Daghim. The 19-year-old Danish attacker left AGF Aarhus to Salzburg in 2023 and has been working in the Red Bull System ever since. After a successful loan out to FC Liefering, Daghim made 47 competitive appearances for Salzburg last year. Experience in both the Champions League and Club World Cup have helped Daghim maintain an estimated €5m market value.
“Adam is a young offensive talent with a lot of potential,” VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz said of Daghim. “His versatility, coupled with his immense speed, makes him particularly valuable for our attack.“
“He is a tall center back who brings experience from England,” Schindzielorz said of Seelt. “Jenson has strengths on and off the ball and is a real asset to our defense. We are happy that Jenson is now part of our team.”
“The Bundesliga is a big step for me and an exciting challenge,” Daghim noted in his introductory statement. “I want to quickly find my place in the team here and use my qualities to help us be successful.“
