Yahia Fofana (25) has left SCO Angers on a free transfer, joining Turkish side Rizespor. The Ivory Coast international has signed a three-year deal.

Fofana was allowed to leave Angers this summer. After two strong seasons, his second in Ligue 1, the club agreed that they would not stand in the way of a departure for the goalkeeper. However, the price tag set by Le Sco deterred suitors.

Angers, however, quickly moved to sign his replacement, bringing in Hervé Koffi from RC Lens. It left Fofana in a position where he was training with the reserve team. It was a sub-optimal situation, especially given the surprising lack of interest in the player.

With most transfer windows closed, Angers decided to cut their losses on Tuesday, allowing the goalkeeper to join Rizespor on a free transfer. Le Sco do, however, have a 50% sell-on clause. He has signed a three-year deal with the club.
