Jean-Louis Gasset and Montpellier HSC parted ways by mutual consent on Monday. His replacement has already been named – Zoumana Camara.
Gasset, who is to remain at the club in a backroom role, has himself made the decision to hire Camara. Despite managing the side, Gasset, who only came in on an interim basis until the end of the season, has been in contact with the former Paris Saint-Germain player for several weeks, discussing the contours of the deal. The topic of those discussions surrounded the terms of the deal, depending on whether the club was in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2.
It now looks likely to be the latter. Montpellier currently sit rock-bottom of Ligue 1 and 11 points adrift of Stade de Reims, who occupy the relegation play-off spot. There are only six games remaining and Gasset, as well as his now-former players, have struck a resigned tone in recent weeks.
Camara has now been officially named Montpellier manager. It is his first role as first-team manager having been an assistant and then a youth coach at PSG. His deal with La Paillade runs until 2027, L’Équipe understands.
