FC Bayern currently sees no need for action in central midfield. But are the existing options really enough?

FC Bayern has made targeted signings this summer transfer window with Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari. In central midfield, however, there are reportedly no plans for a high-profile signing following Leon Goretzka’s departure. According to Sky, club officials are confident in the existing roster and are not currently planning any further transfers for that position.

Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, however, takes a more nuanced view of the situation. He described Munich’s central midfield as “okay, but not outstanding.” With that, the transfer expert summed up a discussion that has been ongoing at FC Bayern for weeks: Is the current lineup sufficient to remain competitive at the highest level in the long term?

Internal solutions instead of new multi-million transfers?

According to information from Sky, Bayern is primarily relying on Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Tom Bischof in the center. Behind this trio, Konrad Laimer and new signing Nathaniel Brown provide additional versatile options. Should personnel shortages arise, club officials are apparently even considering unusual solutions. According to Sky, Jamal Musiala or Lennart Karl would be called up if necessary.

However, an external signing is not currently planned. Although PSG star Fabian Ruiz has recently been linked with the German record champions, the Spaniard is reportedly set to extend his contract in Paris as things stand. This would likely rule out that move anyway.

Gabriel Bontempo has also recently been mentioned as another possible candidate. According to reports, Munich has already made an offer of around 32 million euros for the talented Brazilian midfielder, but FC Santos rejected it. The Brazilians are reportedly demanding a significantly higher transfer fee.
