OL Lyonnes have suffered a major setback, with new signing Johanna Kaneryd facing a long absence after a serious knee injury in training. The club said in a statement on Saturday morning, ahead of the first pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad, that the 29-year-old had ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament.
The Sweden winger is one of four summer recruits for Jonatan Giráldez and his staff. She had been earmarked to operate down the right, from attack to defence.
She is due to undergo surgery in the coming days.
It is the third ACL rupture of her career. She first sustained the injury at 15, then again in 2018 shortly after joining Rosengard.
Since then, a Sweden assistant coach has worked closely with her to try to reduce the risk of recurrence.
