Paulo Fonseca remains evasive on the absences of OL’s record summer signing Mads Bidstrup and last season’s leading scorer Pavel Sulc, sounding optimistic but offering no timeline.

Five senior players were absent from Monday morning training in Décines ahead of Tuesday’s decisive second leg against Sparta Prague. Suspended Nicolas Tagliafico has only just returned to Lyon and resumed training, and he, like Khalis Merah after a heavy pre-season ankle sprain, will need a few weeks. According to L’Equipe, young forward Enzo Molebe will be loaned out again, having ended last season at Montpellier.

With Fonseca not planning to use him, Molebe is due to get minutes at Lausanne Sport in the Swiss top flight.

Supporters’ focus, though, is on Bidstrup, who is said to have a knee cartilage issue, and Sulc, who is also carrying a knock and could yet be sold. Asked about the pair, Fonseca offered little, saying only they would be back soon.

Those comments irritated some Lyon fans, who remember being told Malick Fofana would return in January, only for his comeback to arrive three months later. He still had lingering pain and underwent surgery again this summer.
