Michael Olise continued his fine form with a brilliant strike in France’s 1-1 draw with Italy on Friday. The FC Bayern star has registered a goal or an assist in France’s first three games under Zinedine Zidane.
The game against Italy at Stade de France was a special occasion for Didier Deschamps’ replacement. Zidane scored both the first (vs. Spain) and the most iconic (two headers vs. Brazil) goals at the stadium during his glittering career, which ended with a red card against Italy in his second World Cup final.
There was also a red card in his first game as France’s head coach at Stade de France. Olise’s Bayern teammate Dayot Upamecano was sent off after his second booking five minutes before the end of regular time.
In an all-action second-half, Olise and Alessandro Bastoni scored the goals for the two teams. The 24-year-old fired home a brilliant free-kick for his tenth goal since the start of the season.
In the other game from the group, former Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg superstar Kevin de Bruyne scored twice as Belgium beat Türkiye 3-0.
France remained top of the group ahead of their game against Belgium at the same venue on Monday. Upamecano will be suspended for that match, while Olise will hope to extend his goalscoring streak with the national team.
