Oliver Glasner is hopeful Chris Wood will be available to face Brest at the City Ground on Sunday. As reported by Nottingham Post, the Nottingham Forest head coach is weighing fitness carefully after the striker’s recent lay-off.

Wood has featured only once in pre-season after time off following New Zealand’s World Cup campaign. He was due to face Udinese at the weekend but was withdrawn before kick-off, then he sat out last night’s 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

In his absence, Dan Ndoye and Arnaud Kalimuendo scored as Glasner claimed his first victory at the City Ground. Igor Jesus led the line before half-time, with Taiwo Awoniyi taking the second 45.

Glasner said they will not take risks after a difficult last season for the forward. He explained the New Zealander endured a long injury lay-off and recently had a minor muscle issue, adding that he has already trained and that Leverkusen was precautionary.

He said that if Wood completes Friday and Saturday sessions without problems, he will play on Sunday. He noted Wood’s experience means the focus is simply on keeping him fit as Forest build towards the opener against Leeds United.
