Austrian has won three major honours in two years

Oliver Glasner has bid a touching farewell to Crystal Palace as he bowed out of the club after delivering its first European title.

The Austrian took over at Palace in February 2024, and, in the two years since, has delivered all three of the club’s major honours.

His first came as the Eagles stunned Palace Manchester City in last season’s FA Cup final, and the second followed later that summer as they beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield.

Jean-Philippe Mateta then scored the decisive goal as Palace edged stubborn La Liga contenders Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final, which had long since been confirmed as Glasner’s final match for the club.

Speaking at full-time, though, Glasner shrugged off any credit for Palace’s triumphs, redirecting all praise towards his squad and support staff.

“I see myself as part of this group,” he began, “As the manager you can’t do anything alone.

“You need a great staff behind you, but especially great football players and great people, and because they always stick together and work hard.

“I think this is what we started from day No1, to create their mindset. Everything is possible.

It is indeed a considerable payoff for Glasner and Palace alike. This is the Austrian’s second European title and he leaves the club as comfortably its most successful manager.

He went on, reflecting on his spell at Selhirst Park: “It has meant a lot. I was talking to the players in the meeting today. You hear the fans thanking us for giving them the best day of their lives and I said thank you to the players because it is the same for me.

“The players and fans give me and my family, who are here today, great days in our lives. That is what I really appreciate.

"The players always listened to me, supported me, trusted in me and believed in what I told them.

“I can be very demanding. A huge thank you to the players and all of the staff and of course all of the fans. I don't know how many have travelled from England here but I think they will have a great party and we will join them.

Glasner’s next steps are not yet confirmed, but he will have one last chance to say goodbye to Palace’s passionate support at the club’s trophy parade.
