Former France rugby captain Olivier Magne has started a new role with Olympique Lyonnais as a mental coach. He said in a post that he has begun a collaboration focused on psychosocial support and boosting individual and collective performance.

He described the move from rugby to football as an opportunity and a significant challenge. He framed it as a new chapter with a historic club and expressed pride at joining.

Magne said his approach draws on his career as a player, coach and manager, combined with university studies on the psychological drivers of performance. He is 52 and won 89 caps for France.

During his playing career he collected four Grand Slams in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004, and another Six Nations title in 2006.

After retiring he moved into coaching, including working with France Under-20 as forwards coach and with Lyon’s Espoirs in the Top 14. He has also served as a consultant for several broadcast outlets.
