Olivier Magne has announced in a social media post on Tuesday that he is joining Olympique Lyonnais as a mental coach. He will work with the club’s footballers alongside Raphaël Homat, a more experienced practitioner.

The 52-year-old former France captain earned 89 caps and won the Championship five times, with Grand Slams in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004.

Magne holds a qualification in mental preparation and had already been collaborating with Lyon for several weeks. His work focuses on psychosocial aspects and on optimising collective and individual performance.

Moving from rugby into football is presented as both an opportunity and a significant challenge, with the human levers involved described as universal. His approach combines experience as a player, coach and manager with academic training.

He is engaged by the club as a contractor and will contribute on an occasional basis.
