Champions League complications.

Renewed talks.

€5m versus €6m.

Questions over whether Red Star might keep him for another European round.

That final uncertainty is now apparently gone. Olympiacos informed Greek media Sunday night that an agreement has been reached with Red Star, and Tiknizyan is scheduled to land in Athens at 08:55 Monday morning. The left-back search is effectively over, pending medical formalities.

The timing matters almost as much as the signing

Olympiacos open the Greek league against Atromitos on August 22. The club’s official schedule lists that match as the next fixture. Tiknizyan therefore arrives with several days available before competitive domestic football resumes. That is far better for Mendilibar than waiting until after Red Star’s Europa League playoff.

The player needs tactical work.

He is not a conservative full-back who simply stays behind the ball, he attacks space, he carries forward, he operates high. Those qualities require coordinated protection behind him.

NEC showed why integration is essential

Olympiacos’ Champions League elimination exposed one of the fundamental risks of aggressive full-back football.

When Rodinei advanced and possession changed hands, NEC could exploit the vacated space. Tiknizyan can create the same risk on the left if Olympiacos do not properly structure the midfield behind him. That means Freuler’s arrival and the search for another central midfielder actually connect directly to the left-back transfer.

One player changes the attack. Another player needs to secure what happens behind it.

Olympiacos now have two very different left-back profiles

Bruno Onyemaechi offers physical power, athletic defending and the ability to play aggressively. Tiknizyan brings greater attacking specialization and more natural full-back/wing-back instincts. Mendilibar now has actual tactical choice instead of simply hoping one player survives every schedule and matchup. That improves the position considerably.

€5m establishes a starter-level expectation

bwinΣΠΟΡ FM says Olympiacos will pay €5m for the transfer. At age 27, Tiknizyan is not a speculative prospect.

Olympiacos are purchasing prime years. The value therefore has to come primarily through performance.

The expectation should be that he becomes a genuine starting-level option immediately.

His reported desire for Olympiacos is another positive

Throughout negotiations, Serbian, Armenian and Greek reporting repeatedly said Tiknizyan wanted the Piraeus move and had turned away other opportunities. Those claims remain reporting rather than a direct public statement from the player.

But the practical outcome is now consistent with them.

He is leaving Red Star.

He is coming to Olympiacos.

That is much cleaner than several other transfer sagas where convincing the player became half the battle.

The Red Star replacement provides further validation

Serbian reporting says Red Star have already arranged Mihailo Ristić’s return as the replacement for Tiknizyan. They have also reported interest in former Olympiacos LB Oleg Reabciuk. That seller-side preparation reinforced the likelihood of the move before Olympiacos’ latest confirmation.

Now the process appears aligned on both sides:

Red Star replace him.

Olympiacos receive him.

The player travels.

Monday should be mostly procedural

Assuming no unexpected medical issue, the sequence should now be straightforward:

arrival;

medical;

contract;

announcement.

That is substantially different from being “close.”

Olympiacos finally have the club agreement and a flight itinerary. Tiknizyan is now one step away from becoming an Olympiacos player.
