On the eve of OM's trip to Metz for Matchday 7 of Ligue 1, Roberto De Zerbi stepped up to defend Amine Gouiri, whose attacking efficiency has come under scrutiny. The Italian coach was unequivocal:

"I see him in good shape, he's calm and knows he can come on during the match or start. With the number of games this season, everyone will get their chance and, in the end, it's always what happens on the pitch that counts. Gouiri is a strong player," De Zerbi emphasized, dismissing any controversy surrounding the Algerian international striker.

An atypical but valuable profile

Asked about his forward's exact role, De Zerbi highlighted the unique nature of his game:

"He's never been a striker who scores 20 or 30 goals a season. He likes to play, to make others play, to combine. He's not always in the box, nor is he constantly looking to get in behind the defense."

Compared by his coach to the likes of Aubameyang or Robinho, Gouiri is seen more as a creative asset than a pure finisher. Against Metz, if he starts, he'll have the chance to silence his critics and get back on the scoresheet. As for De Zerbi, he continues to place full trust in his forward.
