Omar Marmoush has decided to represent Manchester City at the FIFA Club World Cup between June and July and will not join the Egypt National Team camp, as per a new report.
Manchester City will participate in the 32-club, newly-formatted tournament in the United States to round off the 2024-25 season, hoping to pick up more silverware after winning the FA Community Shield in August and vying for an eighth FA Cup title.
Pep Guardiola’s side will finish the tournament in mid-July and spend pre-season to prepare for the 2025-26 season, with incoming sporting director Hugo Viana – who officially started work in Manchester on Monday – set to back Guardiola heavily in the transfer market.
City are expected to make wholesale changes to their first-team after signing the quartet of Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez for a combined £181.5 million in January to give Guardiola a helping hand amidst a treacherous fitness period for the Blues.
Marmoush’s arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt following a stellar first half of the season in the Bundesliga has been an exciting prospect and something to cheer about for Manchester City fans in what has largely been a disappointing campaign for the club.
The 26-year-old has scored six times and provided an assist in 13 outings in all competitions for the Premier League champions since his arrival, scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle United in the Premier League and the winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth.
In the absence of Erling Haaland – who is expected to be out for a month-and-a-half after injuring his ankle against Bournemouth – the goalscoring burden will naturally fall upon Marmoush to deliver the goods and step up in the business end of City’s season amidst their top-four chase and FA Cup run.
As reported by Ismael Mahmoud, Marmoush will stay on with Manchester City at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States and will not be joining up with the Egypt National Team in June.
This is a massive personnel boost for Guardiola and Manchester City, who are waiting for a decision on Kevin De Bruyne’s availability for the tournament after the 33-year-old confirmed he will be leaving the club in the coming months, amid recent interest from Inter Miami CF in the Major League Soccer.
Marmoush has been a breath of fresh air in a Manchester City attack that has struggled for creative inspiration and often in the absence of Haaland has failed to put the ball in the back of the net over the course of the campaign.
