Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent has revealed his take on the Manchester City goalkeeper’s first six months in England whilst snubbing his former club Paris Saint-Germain.
Enzo Raiola has been Donnarumma’s sole representative since 2022 – following the unfortunate passing of Raiola’s cousin Mino – who was key in some of the most lucrative moves of the modern era – having also represented Erling Haaland, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.
Even before Mino’s passing, Enzo was an associate and worked with the Italian goalkeeper since his academy years at Serie A side AC Milan..
Initially, Donnarumma’s £26 million move to Manchester City was frowned upon in some quarters – given the contrasting styles to City’s former shotstopper Ederson – who at times would amusingly be seen as a midfielder with the way he can play with the ball at his feet.
However, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has altered his setup to fit the needs of his coveted goalkeeper – something PSG boss Luis Enrique didn’t do in the French capital – instead claimed that Donnarumma’s wages were a problem and that he didn’t fit the manager’s demands as he sought a replacement in Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
In a recent conversation with Radio Sportiva, Raiola has provided information on Donnarumma’s transition from France to England and what he expects for the future at Manchester City.
“It’s been a busy summer for him, given what happened in Paris. Maybe one day they’ll explain what happened in their evaluations, but today we’re enjoying a great performance by City,” Raiola said, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.
“When Gigio (Donnarumma) arrived, things improved in terms of results and now we’re battling with Arsenal for the top spot. There will be a lot of games in January but the first six months have gone well. He and the club are happy – and that’s fine.”
Donnarumma has settled in well at the Etihad club and is getting along with all of his teammates, with Guardiola doing everything he can to negate his weaknesses on the ball, especially because the Catalan has the knowledge that his side have what it takes to beat Arsenal to the Premier League title once again.
The Italy international has pulled off decisive saves against Manchester United, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace in recent months but has also found himself in avoidable situations with the ball at his feet.
Still, after 21 appearances across all competitions, it seems that City have found a befitting replacement for Ederson, who moved to Fenerbahce on a free at the same time as Donnarumma’s switch to England.
Evidently, Guardiola is at work with yet another top-tier shot-stopper who has the necessary credentials to back that up – most recently winning FIFA’s The Best’ Men’s Goalkeeper for 2025. The general consensus is that it certainly won’t be his last.
