Santos have announced the signing of Rony on a three-year contract, structured to avoid an immediate cash outlay.
According to Globo.com, the move is valued at €3 million, about R$ 18 million, plus potential add-ons, with the amount covered by offsets among Santos, Atlético-MG and Botafogo.
Botafogo still owed Santos a final instalment for Jair and John from a deal reached last year, while Atlético-MG were due to pass on to the Rio club part of the Júnior Santos fee.
With the balances netted off through Rony’s transfer, the club did not need to draw on its cash to complete the signing. Santos will incur costs only if the forward hits performance targets set in the agreement with Atlético-MG.
Operating with tight finances this window, the club have limited room for investment. Gabigol and Gabriel Menino arrived on loan until the end of the year, with Rony the first permanent addition.
Registered for the Paulistão on Friday, Rony could debut on Saturday. He is available to Vojvoda for the clássico against São Paulo at Morumbis, scheduled for 20:30 Brasília time.
