Como have been one of the biggest spenders across Italy this summer and their ambition is clear to see. In what was an impressive season straight after promotion, they finished mid-table. However, after the summer they have had, European qualification will be on the agenda. Let us look at their business.
Como have a clear plan – to sign youngsters with potential and fill squad gaps with more experienced players.
In attack, they have brought in a couple of young and exciting wingers in Jesus Rodriguez and Jayden Addai from Real Betis and AZ Alkmaar. They are more developmental signings, unlike Nicolas Kuhn from Celtic who would be expected to have an instant impact. Alvaro Morata has also come in, to reignite his career and fight for the striker spot.
In midfield, Martin Baturina has come in from Dinamo Zagreb. He is a very exciting attacking midfielder and will add a new dimension to the team. Maximo Perrone has also moved permanently and he is going to be very, very important to the team.
In defence there have been a few key acquisitions. Alex Valle’s loan from Barcelona has been made permanent and he will be the starting left-back. Stefan Posch has come in from Bologna to play right-back and he brings a lot of experience. Central defender Diego Carlos also adds to the experience department, coming in on loan from Fenerbache. Another interesting signing is that of Jacobo Ramon from Real Madrid. He is a highly rated young defender and Como would hope that his transfer follows a similar trajectory to that of Nico Paz.
Although Como have signed a couple of keepers, a more established player coming in to challenge Jean Butez would have been ideal.
Arguably however, Como’s most impressive business has been keeping hold of Nico Paz and manager Cesc Fabregas. Both were subject to considerable interest from conventionally bigger teams but Como have done well to keep them tied down to the club.
