They’re calling it the worst first half of the season from Chelsea. And they’re probably not wrong.
It was dreadfully sloppy from the whole team. The defenders were poor, giving the ball away repeatedly. Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos were porous in midfield, and couldn’t progress the ball forward at all.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho had a stinker on the left and Joao Pedro was anonymous up front.
The less said about Malo Gusto’s showing, the better. We are missing some important players today, but that is no excuse for the level of performance we’ve seen. The group don’t look ready, don’t look switched on, don’t look prepared. You can’t blame that on missing regulars.
Opta live stats on Chelsea’s errors leading to shots.
The most chilling stat of all came from Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail. He claims that Opta’s live stats are saying that Chelsea made more errors leading to opposition shots in that 45 minutes than they had in any other game so far in this Premier League season. There’s still another 45 minutes to make more…
There will be serious changes at half time – we suspect Enzo Maresca will break the emergency glass and bring on Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian. We might even get Marc Guiu too in a triple change. Honestly, things can’t get worse, and we’d back any change made by Maresca to improve things.
Caicedo alone could change the course of this game – but we need to build a team that can win without him.
Things would probably be looking a lot better out there if we had Wesley Fofana in the team. He was supposed to be back today after a concussion, but instead is not in the squad at all. We’re told it’s not injury related – which is even more worrying in a way.
