A lot of people will tell you that international football doesn’t matter anymore, but in some cases it has a huge amount of power.

There’s no better example than Elliot Anderson. Of course he’s a good player, and people would have known that from his impressive form with Nottingham Forest. But there’s no way he would be being talked about as he is right now were it not for his installation into Thomas Tuchel’s England first XI.

A series of really impressive showings for the national team has cemented Anderson as a universally highly rated player, and now sees him being linked with the best teams in Europe without anyone batting an eyelid.

Speaking on NBC Sport this week, top transfer insider David Ornstein has tipped Chelsea as one of the teams who would be keen on signing the impressive young player next summer:

“The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, plenty of others will be in the frame as well,” Ornstein said.

“A lot will depend on managers, with some uncertainty over the bosses at the clubs that I’ve mentioned so far. A player like Anderson will want a bit of certainty around that.”

The draw with Newcastle came after the Blues turned around a dreadful first half and scored twice in the second. Most fans thought the Blues were shocking in the first half – but Enzo Maresca insisted he had seen some things he liked.

All anyone wants to talk to Enzo Maresca about at the moment are his comments last weekend. He must regret that outburst so much now. Today he flatly denied he was in a “complicated” situation after the comments.
