Osasuna have issued a scathing statement after LaLiga and the Spanish federation rescheduled their postponed trip to Celta for 27 August, following problems with the Balaídos pitch.

The club said in a statement that it accepted the need to call off this weekend’s game, but condemned the way the new date was chosen.

Both clubs had agreed to play in the September international break, but the authorities rejected that and chose an earlier slot, prompting a broader attack on calendar management.

Osasuna’s anger centred on timing, with the postponement confirmed on Thursday, three days before the original fixture, which it framed as another late, improvised calendar change.

It called the snub to the agreed date especially serious despite its willingness to accommodate Celta, and cited other issues, including refusal to move Osasuna-Levante and its first two home matches set for Mondays.

The decision was also presented publicly as coordinated with the clubs, even though travel to Vigo had already been arranged a little over 48 hours before kick-off.

The statement closed by riffing on LaLiga’s old slogan, stating this felt like LaLiga rather than football.
