Oscar Mingueza ‘to decide’ future next week amid Sunderland and Aston Villa links | OneFootball

Sunderland-linked defender Oscar Mingueza is expected to choose his next club next week, according to reports. The Spaniard is a free agent after leaving La Liga side Celta Vigo.

He has been linked with Sunderland in recent days, while Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also credited with interest. Abroad, Atalanta, Como and Juventus have been mentioned among potential admirers.

Mingueza came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy and made 66 senior appearances for the Catalan club. He joined Celta Vigo in summer 2022.

Capped four times by Spain, he offers versatility across the back line. Primarily a right back, he can also operate at left-back and in central defence.

Sunderland are expected to seek defensive reinforcements this window after full-back Dennis Cirkin departed. There is also uncertainty over the future of 2025/26 loanee Lutsharel Geertruida.
