Osimhen case: Napoli president faces justice

Stunning developments in Italy. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis appeared in court over alleged irregularities related to several transfers, including that of Victor Osimhen, now a Galatasaray player.

According to Italian media, the investigation focuses on two deals: the signing of Kostas Manolas from AS Roma in 2019 and Osimhen's transfer from Lille in 2020. While the Manolas deal is considered above board, the transfer of the Nigerian international raises numerous questions.

A murky arrangement

Napoli officially paid €50 million to secure Osimhen, including several young players—Ciro Palmeri, Claudio Manzi, and Luigi Liguori—who were supposed to join Lille as part of the package. The issue: these players reportedly never set foot in France. Despite this, their transfers were registered as accounting profits in the Italian club’s financial statements.

Aurelio De Laurentiis made his first court appearance this week, but the hearing was postponed to November 6. The defense lawyers have announced they will submit a new request to the prosecutor before that date.
