According to L’Équipe, midfielder Otávio (27) was left out of the Bordeaux squad last month as a result of negotiations between the club and his agents.
The player, whose contract with the Girondins lasts until the end of the season, led the management to believe that he was ready to extend his contract when, in fact, he had already signed a pre-contract with Atlético Mineiro of the Brazilian first division, beginning this summer.
All became clear when Bordeaux received offers from Al Ittihad and CSKA Moscow, for €2.2 million and €3.5 million respectively, at the start of the transfer window.
While Bordeaux will not regain any of the €5 million transfer fee they paid to Atletico Paranaense in 2017, they have saved themselves the cost of the Brazilian’s wages (€150,000 per month) until the end of his contract, having loaned the midfielder to Atlético Mineiro for the rest of the season.
