It’s an objective that is always there. We all know that Chivas has to be in first place, and we want to make it to the playoffs, but our main objective is to win the championship. That’s what we work for every day, and the coach instills that mentality in us. The coach has made it clear to us that there are no guaranteed starting spots, and that’s how he lets us know: whoever is in good form will play. That drives internal competition. Whoever is on the field, the team continues to play the same way, and we have to get into the work ethic and rhythm that we know is very demanding.

We have a lot of possession and a lot of different options. The game plan they give us always works out the way they ask us to execute it. We create a lot of chances, and we have to work on our finishing so that whenever an opportunity comes, we’re in good condition to take it.

On his strong start with four goals in the tournament

I’m very happy with the start I’m having. I owe it all to the team’s work. In Liga de Expansión, it happened that I would start scoring after Jornada 6; now it has been different and it started earlier, fortunately. I know I have to make the most of it to keep performing. The truth is, I’m not doing anything different. I’ve always been hardworking, with a good attitude and willingness to work. I just enjoy being part of such a big club as Chivas.

We know it’s going to be a very difficult match because they look for ways to sit back and defend, because of the rivalry and what it means for them to play against Chivas. We have to go out and play with the same intensity we showed against San Luis. We’re going to have those opportunities, and we have to take advantage of them. We hope to continue the team’s good run.

These are important weeks when it comes to aiming for the top of the table, but we like to take it one game at a time. Right now, we don’t want to think about América. Our mentality is on Pumas, and when the time comes, we’ll think about América. We know what that game represents for us and for the fans.
