PSG were denied from the spot by Nick Pope early on, yet Vitinha soon put them ahead against Newcastle in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
PSG won a penalty in the opening minute for a handball by Lewis Miley. L'Équipe highlighted the chaos of those early exchanges. Ousmane Dembélé took it, Pope dived left to save the right-footed effort in the fourth minute.
The decision, given after a VAR check by referee M. Vincic, looked debatable, as the ball appeared to hit Bradley Barcola's arm, possibly his shoulder, before touching Miley.
PSG quickly moved on, Vitinha scoring with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area to make it 1-0 in the eighth minute.
The fixture formed part of the Champions League league phase on its eighth matchday.
