Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea appears increasingly uncertain, with the January transfer window shaping up as a decisive moment in the England international’s career.

According to TEAMtalk, Fulham remain interested in a potential move for the out-of-favour winger, who has found himself firmly on the fringes at Stamford Bridge this season.

Sterling has yet to make a single appearance in the current campaign after being deemed surplus to requirements by Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

The Italian has been clear behind the scenes that the former Manchester City star does not fit into his long-term vision, a stance that has been reinforced by Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment strategy in wide attacking areas.

Chelsea have enough depth in wide attacking positions

Over the past few windows, Chelsea have invested heavily in youth and potential, prioritising players seen as part of the club’s next cycle rather than established names.

The arrivals of Jamie Gittens, Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho, and Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão show Chelsea’s intention to build a younger, more dynamic frontline.

In that context, Sterling, despite his experience and trophy-laden CV, has been edged out of the picture.

Sources close to the player suggest that he is determined to secure consistent minutes, something Chelsea cannot currently offer given their crowded attacking options and Maresca’s tactical preferences.

Fulham could offer lifeline to Raheem Sterling

Fulham’s interest could therefore prove significant. Marco Silva is understood to admire Sterling’s experience, movement and ability to make decisive contributions in the final third.

The West London club have previously explored a move and are believed to see Sterling as someone who could add proven Premier League quality to their attack, while also offering leadership to a relatively young squad.

Sterling remains on substantial wages at Chelsea, meaning any January move could involve a loan arrangement or salary contribution from the Blues.

However, Chelsea may be willing to be flexible if it helps move a player firmly outside their plans and reduces the wage bill.
