An outlet has explained, along with words from the player himself, why a goalkeeper rejected a chance to join Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea beat Los Angeles FC 2-0 in their Club World Cup opening group game last night in what was a very strange and subdued atmosphere in front of just 22,000 people in a huge stadium.
It was far from vintage Chelsea but in the end they just got the job done and three points on the board to set them up for a good starts.
The goals came from a lovely Nicolas Jackson assist to Pedro Neto to finish in the first half. And then new signing Liam Delap also provided a superb assist for Enzo Fernandez to run into the box and tap in to score.
I actually think both Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen could be sold as well as Djordje Petrovic this summer and we could see a bit of a goalkeeper reshuffle at the club.
I believe they will still sign a new goalkeeper, and they have spent the last three months being linked with new ones. So there is clearly something there.

On May 27, BILD and SPORT BILD apparently revealed that Gregor Kobel had made a decision about his future after weeks of talks with Chelsea. The player’s side had informed Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl that a move this summer was out of the question. The Swiss international will therefore continue to be in Dortmund’s goal next season. He now speaks to BILD for the first time about his reasons.
The goalkeeper explains emotionally: “Everyone knows that I feel extremely comfortable in Dortmund. I love the fans, the stadium, the club, and the atmosphere. Everyone knows that and sees it when I’m on the pitch. I really appreciate that.”
When asked whether he had given up on his dream of playing in the English Premier League, Kobel replied: “I can’t remember ever saying that this was my dream.”
