Mikel Oyarzabal struck twice as Spain eased past Austria 3-0 to move towards the last 16, with David Alaba enduring a torrid night.

According to L'Équipe, Marc Cucurella thought he had opened the scoring from a corner on 29 minutes, only for a slight Cubarsi foul on the keeper to be given. Schlager saved from Oyarzabal on 33, but the forward then finished from near the penalty spot on 36 after a Cucurella cross.

Alex Baena then struck the bar from a 25-metre free-kick in first-half stoppage time, Schlager getting a touch. Austria withdrew Xaver Schlager at half-time, like Seiwald, yet Spain remained comfortable.

Porro made it 2-0 on 66 after Spain again prised open Austria’s right side. Cucurella, outstanding throughout, supplied Oyarzabal again on 89 for 3-0, moments after Alaba cleared a Lamine Yamal effort off the line.

Oyarzabal’s haul makes it 17 goals in his last 17 matches. Cucurella delivered two assists, with Baena creating Porro’s strike.

Alaba struggled throughout, implicated in all three concessions and unable to win a duel, though he did produce that goal-line stop. Stefan Posch was booked on 83 and replaced by Prass on 85, while Konrad Laimer battled against Yamal and made seven recoveries.
