Simon Jordan has given his reaction to Rob Edwards' message to Middlesbrough supporters explaining his move to Wolves.

Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has taken aim at Rob Edwards after he released an emotional statement to Middlesbrough supporters explaining the reasons behind his decision to depart for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Edwards only took over at Middlesbrough in June when he signed a three-year contract to replace Michael Carrick, and his side had emerged as one of the promotion front-runners in the Championship after a strong start to the season.

However, speculation about Edwards' future at the Riverside Stadium began to gather pace after he was linked with Wolves following the sacking of Vitor Pereira earlier this month, and while the Premier League basement side saw their initial approach rejected by Boro, the 42-year-old informed the club he wished to hold talks about a potential move to Molineux, which resulted in him being stood down from Saturday's game against Birmingham City.

Edwards was officially announced as Wolves' new head coach on Wednesday as he put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract, and Boro will reportedly receive £3 million in compensation from the Midlands outfit.

After his departure was confirmed, Edwards took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with Boro supporters, explaining that leaving was "one of the toughest decisions of my career", and having played over 100 games for Wolves between 2004 and 2008, as well as later serving as a coach and interim manager, he insisted that he "would not have considered leaving Middlesbrough for any other club".

Jordan has been strongly critical of Edwards in recent days following his decision to depart Middlesbrough, and his social media post did little to change the view of the ex-Palace owner, who slammed him for his lack of integrity, as well as questioning his claim that Wolves is the only club he would have left for.

"What's he going to turn around and say? He's let everybody down, undoubtedly he's let everybody down," Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"Of course he would leave for another football club, if Man United phoned him up and asked if he wanted the job, he wouldn't say 'I can't join you because I'd only go to Wolves', what rubbish.

"Look, he's moved on, and like most things in sport, people have short memories, so we'll see how he gets on.

"Often in life, people lacking integrity prosper, so maybe Wolves will stay up."

"It's a fantastic sight to behold because it's based upon what, relegating Luton from the Premier League and the Championship?" Jordan asked.

"That gives you the idea that he's worth a three-and-a-half year contract?

"If he's not successful and Wolves go down this season, and they start next season poorly, would you like to place a bet that Rob Edwards will still be in his job?

"They've given him a three-and-a-half year contract, but that means nothing and probably has a whacking great big caveat in there in terms of what they have to pay him if he isn't successful."

In what have now become infamous quotes, Edwards spoke of the need for togetherness and his desire to create a family feel at Boro, and Jordan believes that such comments should now be seen as disingenuous in light of his move to Wolves.

"He sat in front of Middlesbrough fans and said 'I only want players who want to play for this football club, I only want people that are committed to it, I only want people who want to stay here, we're going to build this as a unit and a family and be successful together'," Jordan said.

"What happened to all that then? It was a pack of lies.

"But it's not a pack of lies because the only job in football that he would take came up.

"So if a big job like Aston Villa or Man United came up, he would say no because 'the only job I want is Wolves', it's rubbish.

"What it negates is the argument that I'm making and negates any curiosity about the lack of integrity, the lack of honesty, the lack of substance.

"It's the rules of engagement, it's the rules of the jungle, but it shouldn't be."

Middlesbrough supporters will surely agree with Simon Jordan's explosive Rob Edwards comments

Jordan has certainly not held back this week in his views on Edwards' move from Middlesbrough to Wolves, and supporters of the Teesside outfit will no doubt be in agreement with his latest comments.

In truth, any explanation Edwards would have given about the reasons behind his exit would not have been accepted by the Boro faithful, but his Instagram post has unsurprisingly not gone down well, and it is easy to understand why they feel betrayed by his decision to walk away from the club after less than five months in charge.

However, Boro currently sit second in the Championship table, and they still have an excellent chance of promotion this season despite losing Edwards, so while the ill-feeling towards their now former head coach is unlikely to disappear any time soon, attention must now turn to who will replace him.
