Palmeiras and Puma shirt launch marked by Italian accent error

Palmeiras and Puma have unveiled their third shirt for 2026, but an Italian inscription on the back contains an accent error. According to Nosso Palestra, the design honours Italy’s triumph two decades ago and emphasises the club’s origins.

The shirt carries the phrase “Scoppia che la vittoria è nostra”. In Italian, “vittoria” takes no accent, unlike Portuguese, and the word features a double t.

Language specialist Pasquale Cipro Neto described the accent as intrusive and improper. He noted that Italian accents typically appear only on oxytone words and some stressed monosyllables, using grave for open vowels such as “farò” and acute for closed vowels such as “perché”.

He added that the sentence is entirely in Italian apart from the wrongly accented “vittoria”, urging a correction in future batches.

A separate detail appears on a lower patch featuring a map of Italy, where the same phrase is reproduced correctly without an accent on “vittoria”.

The new kit is scheduled to debut on Sunday 23 against Vasco in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Upcoming fixtures, all Brasília time, are 23/8, Palmeiras v Vasco, 16:00, and 26/8, Palmeiras v Santos in the Copa do Brasil, 21:30.
