Palmeiras have completed the signing of Colombian Jhon Arias as their second recruit for 2026, the club said in a statement on Saturday. It is one of the biggest operations in the club’s history and in Brazilian football.

Arias arrives after Marlon Freitas and, alongside Vitor Roque, becomes the biggest signing in the club’s history. In Europe since mid-2025, he did not settle at Wolverhampton, who are bottom of the Premier League.

Palmeiras had pursued Arias since his Fluminense days, when the Rio club were unwilling to strengthen a domestic rival by selling their best player. Fluminense also competed with Palmeiras in the current move.

Since the end of the Club World Cup, Arias has been at Wolverhampton, where his contract granted Fluminense first refusal if the English club decided to sell him. When Palmeiras lodged a 25 million euros bid, about R$154.8 million, Fluminense were notified but could not match or beat it.

With the path clear, Palmeiras agreed the remaining details with Arias and his representatives, leading to the announcement. At Wolverhampton, where he wore the number 10 shirt, he made 29 appearances and scored two goals.
